Song of the Day :)

sooo tomorrow, wait, a demain (trying to use my french!) I'll have a test in my french class and to motivate myself to study, get and A and MASTER this language, I've drawn inspiration from Jason Mraz's acoustic version of "Live High" in France

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKZQXnmbCxk

How lovely is that?! just him, no bells and whistles, just him and his guitar singing and walking in this cute little french town. Cutest thing ever...and not such a bad song! :)

Why do you make your girl mice soooooo skinny?

hahaha I actually DO have a reason, I'm not pro-anorexia or anything! promise! My inspiration comes from Audrey Hepburn, who I think is the loveliest, classiest person ever. The bodies I draw tend to mimic her and she was pretty skinny :) However, I haven't been doing this blog that long, there's a possibility I'll develop the body into something more mainstream and not, as you put it, soooooo skinny :) good question!

And I'd Do it All Again

someone to love is bigger than your prides worth
Is bigger than the pain you got for it hurts
And out runs all of the sadness
Its terrifying, life, through the darkness
And Id do it all again

Corinne Bailey Rae's "I'd Do it All Again" music video is haunting, lovely, sad, nostalgic...and makes me remember why I loved her so much years ago. It's speculated this is about her husband who died of an overdose, but she hasn't confirmed that. So, for now, it's just a lovely tune to sigh to after a cold long day.

New thingys on my mind :)

I had my "Small Store Retail" class today, where we learn how to run a small business. While I've had this blog for fun, I've never really thought about what I would use it for. That is, until today, when we learned about different businesses that start up because of creations, including the Bonnie Marcus invitations.

how precious are these??? As soon as we learned about Bonnie Marcus (her mantra is "set a goal that scares you") and how her business was quickly expanding, all I could think to myself is- this is something I COULD do....cards. While Bonnie Marcus has gone in the direction of invitations, etc, I think it would be so fascinating to branch off into the holiday card area. My friend in my class (who also has the blog "Velvet Underwear"...follow it, she's brilliant!)and I got so excited by this idea and will probably be working on it this semester. Of course, I get this in my head when most of the major card holidays (Valentines Day, New Years, Christmas) are over, but that's ok! so, just a warning, you may see some Mousey cards in the next few weeks! be prepared! :P

I want to be KATE!

ohhh, it's a Ben Folds day. :) but unfortunately, part of the picture is cut out. I'll redo this, I promise! ;)

What is your favorite thing to draw?

Hmmmmm....it depends on my mood...but usually I love to draw things with little details...like a printed fabric, lace, etc, etc. When I was around 8 years old, I used to love to draw bugs...maybe I'll go back to that! :P

Baby, I hate days like this

Is it really necessary
Every single day
Making me more ordinary
In every possible way

This ordinary mind is broken
You did it and you don't even know
Leaving me with words unspoken
You better get back cuz I'm ready for...

More than this
Whatever it is
Baby, I hate days like this
Caught in a trap
I can't look back
Baby I hate days like this

My latest kick has been singer Mika. how much do I love his new album?? so muchhhh! especially his video for "Rain." It makes me want to go camping...maybe when it's a little warmer :P

Last year I took photography 101 for the spring semester and despite hating having to hand over around ten dollars to get film developed (I'm so cheap!) I fell in LOVE with it! Here's some photos I found!

Another creeper photo! I asked the vendor permission to take a picture and he was pretty concerned...I think he thought I was helping the competition...

Fidelity

Goal:

One of the many classes I'm taking is in Small Store Retail, where we learn the ins and outs of running a store. When I got to really thinking about what kind of business I would run, if given a chance, I began to realize what kind of business I'd love to open- an old fashioned toy store!

This, of course, is more wishful thinking than anything. With Toys R Us, Walmart, and other retailers offering discounted prices on toys, I would have to really search hard to find an area with customers that would be willing to pay a little more for the "small store" feel. But if such a thing was possible, can you imagine how amazing that would be? When I grew up, there was a store called "Town Fair" which was packed with toys. It was so breathtaking to walk in, with the old architecture, the wide selection of toys...it was like heaven for a young kid. Right now, I'm thinking I might try to get a job at "Toys R Us" and maybe when I graduate, try to get into their merchandising program. After working in the company for a while, I might have a solid idea for how to run a toy store. And then, who knows? Maybe it'll happen! Until then, it's just a little thought in the back of my mind. :)
