Come fly with me!

When I was in high school, the chorus I was in sang this with the jazz band. I loved the song then, but listen to it by Michael Buble! ugh! the charisma! his amazing performance! He's performing at SNL this weekend and then he has concerts coming up,so maybe I'll be able to see him live! :O

On a cold day, why not....

relax by the fire and drink some hot cocoa? :) oh wait! no fireplace here. guess I'll have to settle for a heater.

RIP J.D. Salinger

this is so sad...Catcher in the Rye is one of my favorites and today, J.D. Salinger died at the age of 91. Here are some quotes that are quite brilliant in their wit-

It was that kind of a crazy afternoon, terrifically cold, and no sun out or anything, and you felt like you were disappearing every time you crossed a road. ~J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye, Chapter 1

People never notice anything. ~J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye, Chapter 2

I'm the most terrific liar you ever saw in your life. It's awful. If I'm on my way to the store to buy a magazine, even, and somebody asks me where I'm going, I'm liable to say I'm going to the opera. It's terrible. ~J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye, Chapter 3

All morons hate it when you call them a moron. ~J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye, Chapter 6

If a girl looks swell when she meets you, who gives a damn if she's late? Nobody. ~J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye, Chapter 17

Don't ever tell anybody anything. If you do, you start missing everybody. ~J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye, Chapter 26

and one of my favorite quotes:
"Anyway, I keep picturing all these little kids playing some game in this big field of rye and all. Thousands of little kids, and nobody's around - nobody big, I mean - except me. And I'm standing on the edge of some crazy cliff. What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff - I mean if they're running and they don't look where they're going I have to come out from somewhere and catch them. That's all I do all day. I'd just be the catcher in the rye and all. I know it's crazy, but that's the only thing I'd really like to be." ~J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye, Chapter 22, spoken by the character Holden Caulfield

A Hipster Mouse

Jkm12someothernumbers was wondering if the mouse on the right in this photo is a "hipster".

According to my reliable source, urbandictionary.com, "Hipsters are a subculture of men and women typically in their 20's and 30's that value independent thinking, counter-culture, progressive politics, an appreciation of art and indie-rock, creativity, intelligence, and witty banter. The greatest concentrations of hipsters can be found living in the Williamsburg, Wicker Park, and Mission District neighborhoods of major cosmopolitan centers such as New York, Chicago, and San Francisco respectively. Although "hipsterism" is really a state of mind,it is also often intertwined with distinct fashion sensibilities. Hipsters reject the culturally-ignorant attitudes of mainstream consumers, and are often be seen wearing vintage and thrift store inspired fashions, tight-fitting jeans, old-school sneakers, and sometimes thick rimmed glasses. Both hipster men and women sport similar androgynous hair styles that include combinations of messy shag cuts and asymmetric side-swept bangs. Such styles are often associated with the work of creative stylists at urban salons, and are usually too "edgy" for the culturally-sheltered mainstream consumer. The "effortless cool" urban bohemian look of a hipster is exemplified in Urban Outfitters and American Apparel ads which cater towards the hipster demographic."
hopefully that clears things up jkm!I'm not promoting smoking with this picture! this is purely just to illustrate the portrait of some hipsters!

note: although this mouse is wearing a shirt of che, under no circumstance would I support che guevara.

P.S. a note to any hipsters reading this- I mean no disrespect to your kind at all with this post! I love you people and your skinny jeans and coffee shop lovingness! Hipsters are cooool. :)

Shhh!

No talking in the library! ;)

thoughts of technology...

with the world getting cell phones that probably do more than my old dino computer does and everything becoming so much more advanced, I can't help but think we should focus a new invention on an idea from the 1964 movie "Mary Poppins"....FLYING UMBRELLAS! now THERE'S something I would invest in! :)

Fred and Ginger

The other night I was watching a movie starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers...it kind of makes me want to find someone to spontaneously dance and sing with! :O
This is the movie we saw..."The Barkleys of Broadway!" This was Fred and Ginger's last movie together!
I love how they float through the air! fancy footwork right there!
